Channel News: No to Spam

Our friends from Cservice brought to my attention yesterday that the channel is littered with spams and spambots and that "cleaning" is needed to protect users - i.e you - from abuse and getting infected with viruses.

So beginning today, posting websites on the main channel is no longer allowed. You may continue to share your links at the confines of private chat. I know most of the sites we post there are harmless (I'm guilty of this too) but it's better safe than sorry.

This is the channel topic and I send out a reminder every 10 minutes so it's hard to miss. Violators will be kicked out and banned for a few minutes.

I know this is different from what we are used to doing but we would like to ask for your cooperation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Cservice and what do they do?
Cservice is a dedicated group of individuals who bring @X to the users of Undernet. They run X for us and assist channel owners in setting up and managing a channel.

What is spam?
Spam is the use of electronic messaging systems i.e. mIRC to send unsolicited messages indiscriminately. While most can be downright annoying, others can infect you with viruses.

What is a spambot?
A spambot is an automated computer program or an mirc script designed to assist in the sending of spam. They are also known as inviters who pose as chatters in a channel.

What does spam has something to do with the website(s) I post in the channel?
The websites might be infected. We really can't tell so we are not allowing any at this time.  It's better safe than sorry.

I also chat in other channels. How come I can do it there?
Each channel has their own way of managing spam and spambots.

What else can I do to help?
Report a spammer to any of the operators/moderators online.

If you have other questions, please feel free to ask any operator/moderator in the channel or you may send an email to salsalan.undernet@gmail.com.
